Cookie Policy
Last Updated: August 2026
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember your preferences and improve your browsing experience.
2. How We Use Cookies
Inself uses cookies and similar technologies for various purposes. We are committed to being transparent about our cookie usage and giving you control.
3. Types of Cookies We Use
3.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies
Always Active
These cookies cannot be disabled as they are essential for the website to function.
| Cookie Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| access_token | Authentication and keeping you signed in (httpOnly, HTTPS only) | 7 days |
| NEXT_LOCALE | Stores your language choice (German/English) | 1 year |
| inself_region | Controls regional content; set once on your first visit from the country signal of your IP address | 1 year |
| inself_region_override | Stores the region you selected yourself | 1 year |
3.2 Analytics (cookies and local storage)
Requires Your Consent
Analytics technologies help us understand how visitors interact with our website.
We use PostHog for product analytics — but without analytics cookies: PostHog is configured so that the analytics identifier is stored only in your browser’s local storage (key “ph_…”). PostHog is loaded only after you consent to the “Analytics” category; without consent, and when your browser sends a GPC signal, nothing is captured. If you withdraw consent, capturing stops immediately.
3.3 Marketing Cookies
Requires Your Consent
These cookies are used to deliver relevant advertisements.
Currently, Inself does not use marketing cookies. If this changes, we will update this policy.
4. Managing Your Cookie Preferences
You have several options for managing cookies:
4.1 Through Our Cookie Banner
When you first visit our website, you can choose which types of cookies to accept. You can change your preferences at any time by clicking the button below:
4.2 Through Your Browser
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings:
Note: Blocking all cookies may affect website functionality.
5. Local Storage
In addition to cookies, we use browser local storage for:
- Storing your authentication state
- Caching app preferences
- Improving performance
- Storing your cookie choice under the key “inself_cookie_consent” — with no expiry; it stays until you change it or clear your browser storage
- PostHog analytics identifier (key “ph_…”) — only after you consent to the “Analytics” category
Storing information in local storage is also storage of information on your terminal equipment within the meaning of § 25 TDDDG. For non-essential purposes — such as analytics — it happens only with your consent.
Local storage data can be cleared through your browser settings or by logging out.
6. Third-Party Cookies
Some third-party services may set their own cookies. We work only with trusted partners who comply with GDPR and respect your privacy:
- PostHog: Product analytics (only with consent; EU endpoint; sets no cookies, uses local storage instead)
- Tawk.to: Live-chat support (off by default; loaded only if you explicitly consent to the "Live chat" category)
- Google Maps: Map display in the lab finder
- Authentication providers: Google Sign-In
7. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. The "Last Updated" date at the top indicates when changes were made.
